Booking

Dare likes to play any place where people want to hear him—living rooms, stadiums, art galleries, derelict strip malls, glitzy music venues filled with trend-setting starlets, fire-gutted churches with free enchiladas. Write STS Booking, and together we will find a way:

Poof: Show with Holopaw and Ten Cent Poetry, March 25

Sometimes shows just drop out of the sky and plop onto my show calendar. That’s how this amazing bill worked: Dare Dukes + the Blackstock Collection will be playing a show Friday, March 25, in Savannah at the Sentient Bean with Sub Pop wonders Holopaw and Asheville’s Ten Cent Poetry.

All Ages.
$8 General
$6 with Student ID

Whoa. This one is not to be missed.

Stopover Festival Poster: Ben, Where Are You?

One of the neato things about the Savannah Stopover Festival, which starts today, is the poster contest. I just went to the reception and saw all the amazing entries (the ones that were chosen among the many submitted). There were even a couple cool ones with my name on them. This one, in particular, I think is the bees knees. (I’m a sucker for mustard, bikes, and DIY jet propulsion). It’s designed by a Savannah College of Art and Design student named Ben Gephardt.

Ben, where are you?

Jeremy Wheatley takes us to Creepsville while tracking for “Thugs and China Dolls.” He bows a vibraphone in search of just the right electric-saw sound.

Hearing Red: February News

Februarians,

We have oh so much to report.

First, if you’re in or near Savannah, I’m playing this Friday, February 4, with two great bands. The Red River (from Long Beach and Portland) will be passing through town on their winter tour. I played with them last October, and, if you were there, you saw them make the audience levitate. Truly wonderful. NPR’s All Songs Considered named their recent release Best of 2010. The lovely local Brandon Nelson McCoy will open. Details are below.

Jim White, Aficionado of the Found

Below you’ll see Jim White, producer and aficionado of the found, recording improvisations on his homemade bell-box contraption for “Simon Says.”

Thanks to Jim, who’s producing it, the song has finally taken on a life of its own. A few months back I was toying with the idea of leaving this song off the new record, because an arrangement was eluding me. What we did this weekend was lovely, thanks to Jim, Suny, Andrew, JoJo, and Liz.
